About Team Sudan

More Than
A Robotics Team

Team Sudan is the official representative of Sudan in the FIRST Global Challenge β€” the world's largest international robotics competition. Since our first participation in 2017, we have been a beacon of hope and a symbol of the unwavering spirit of Sudanese youth.

Our team members, often scattered across continents due to challenging circumstances, come together with a shared vision: to use technology and innovation to build a better future for our homeland. We are more than a robotics team β€” we are a family, a community, and a movement inspiring the next generation of Sudanese leaders.

A Story of Resilience

Displaced,
But Undeterred

In 2024, with Sudan ravaged by civil war, our team was scattered across nine countries. Only two students β€” Maab and her brother Mostafa β€” could secure visas to compete in Athens. They received their robot kit at a desert border crossing, just four days before the competition.

They named their robot "Azza" β€” meaning "honored" in Arabic β€” and assembled it for the first time at the venue. Despite never running a practice match, they ultimately ranked 77th out of 180 teams worldwide.

In 2025, 26 young Sudanese from 6+ countries united in Panama City, carrying a message of hope: Sudan, despite destruction, still nurtures sons and daughters who know the path to building.

"What we've built here is more than just a robot. It's a symbol of resilience and doing it no matter what. Despite everything that's happening, we're here."

"I'm not only representing my country. I think I'm also representing the power of education. If you believe in yourself and try more and more, maybe you'll go to a place even your imagination didn't think about."
